A “must-see” is the Rocky Drift Nature Reserve:

 

This nature reserve can be found in the valleys of the breath-taking Waterval Boven area of Mpumalanga. It should come as no small surprise that this exquisite mountain terrain is a popular sought-after destination for hikers and rock climbers alike.

 

The fresh water stream is fed by the Joubert Spruit of the Elands River, and boasts being home to a wide range of wildlife such as monkeys, leopard, rooikat, a variety of buck and even rock pythons.

 

If hiking’s your thing then the Steenkampsberg Hiking Trail, situated a mere 4km northwest of Dullstroom, is just for you.

 

You will find this trail on the Tonteldoos Road, which is a two-day hiking trail through the Steenkampsberg grasslands – home to a plethora mammals of all descriptions.

Facilities include tented sites, firewood, water and ablutions.     

         

Mountain Reedbuck Route offers excellent views, a 10 metre high waterfall and a massive pool for swimming in, which makes this hiking trail well worth your while.

 

The trail is a 13km circular trail which will take hikers along cliffs and rocky crests and crosses the Witpoort River where hikers will discover a beautiful mountain ravine overflowing with tree ferns.This route forms part and parcel of the two-day Ama Poot Poot Hiking trail.
